Simon Family Tower at Riley Children's Hospital: An IPD Success
North Mechanical is proud to have been a part of the construction team that used the collaborative project delivery method known as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) to successfully complete the Simon Family Tower project at Indiana University Health's Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. As a part of this team, North Mechanical worked to design and build this 10 story, 360,000 square-foot inpatient building with a goal of reducing both first-time construction costs and facility lifecycle costs. In the end, use of the IPD delivery method allowed the team to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, save money, and help IU Health improve staff and patient satisfaction.
The Riley Hospital for Children project also utilized extensively North Mechanical's BIM/3D capabilities. Use of BIM/3D technology allowed for advanced fabrication of piping systems including the use of the company's Trimble Layout Robot. Fabrication was done in North Mechanical's 18,000 square-foot Fab Shop. Not only did North fabricate HVAC components, the company's use of Plumbing and Medical Gas fabrication helped tight schedules, pre-planning, and Lean Construction concepts. Prefabrication for the Riley project reduced site man-hours, increased safety and saved the entire team time and money in the construction process.
